Clear Lake
Introduction
Welcome to Clear Lake, located in the picturesque community of Torrance, just east of Bala and 24 kilometres west of Gravenhurst. As its name suggests, Clear Lake boasts exceptional water clarity, thanks to its small watershed relative to its size. When you’re out on the water, be sure to look down, as you can often see up to 15 feet below the surface.
Activities on the lake
There’s plenty to do on Clear Lake, whether you’re looking for a peaceful swim in its crystal-clear waters, a day of fishing and boating, or simply relaxing on the sandy shoreline and watching the sunset with loved ones. Boaters can make use of the public boat launch on Clear Lake Road, located on the northeast side of the lake. Once you’re out on the water, anchor in the middle of the lake and drop your fishing rod for a chance to catch a bass or northern pike.
Exploring the area
If you’re in the mood for some on-land exploration, head over to the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve, just minutes away from the lake. Here, you can take in unobstructed views of the night sky on boardwalk hiking paths. The Barrens is also a favourite spot for stargazers, thanks to its dark sky and night sky-friendly bylaws.
For those looking to enjoy some local amenities, Torrance has plenty to offer. Check out the Clear Lake Brewery for some genuine Muskoka craft beer, good food, and live music. If you’re in need of some relaxation, head to the Muskoka BeerSpa for a day of hot tub and pool visits, lounging by the cabanas and enjoying the beer garden. Whether you’re looking for a weekend or week-long staycation in one of their clamping cabins with complementary snack food or just a daycation, you won’t be disappointed.
