Clear Lake
Introduction
Located in the community of Torrance, just east of Bala and 24 kilometres west of Gravenhurst. It is, as its name suggests, a very clear lake. It comes by its high water clarity due to the tiny watershed relative to the lake’s size. So look down the next time you’re on the water; you can often see 15 feet or more.
Activities on the lake
Enjoy the quiet peace of Muskoka on the shores of beautiful Clear Lake. Swimming is most popular, as the lake is crystal clear, not overly weedy, and has a sandy shoreline. Whether you’re partial to fishing and boating, water-ski or tubing, or just relaxing on the dock and watching the sunset with family and friends, Clear Lake has something for everyone.
Boaters will find a public boat launch on the northeast side of the lake, on Clear Lake Road. You can launch your boat from the ramp access and enjoy the day on the water. Then, anchor your boat in the middle of the lake and drop your fishing rod in the water. You’ll probably find your catch of the day to include a bass or two; you might reel in a northern pike.
Exploring the area
If you feel like stretching your legs a bit after a day on the water, check out the Torrance Barrens Dark-Sky Preserve. It’s only minutes away from the lake and offers boardwalk hiking paths & unobstructed views of the night sky. The Barrens is a favourite site for those with telescopes because of the dark sky and ‘night sky friendly’ bylaws to protect the opportunity to view our magnificent northern sky.
And if a trip into town is what you’re looking for, Torrance has recently started to boom. Check out the Clear Lake Brewery for genuine Muskoka craft beer, good food and live music. Or see how relaxed you can get with a visit to the Muskoka BeerSpa. Whether it’s a weekend or week-long staycation in one of their clamping cabins with complementary snack food or merely a daycation filled with hot tub and pool visits, lounging by the cabanas and enjoying the beer garden, you won’t be disappointed.
